Dynamics 365 licensing is modular, you pay for the specific apps your users need, with attach pricing reducing the second app by 80-86%. Team Members at $8/user and full licenses from $50 to $210/user. Here is every license type explained clearly.
How Dynamics 365 Licensing Works
Dynamics 365 is a family of individual applications, not a single platform with one license type. Each application (Sales, Customer Service, Business Central, Finance, Supply Chain) is licensed separately, per user, per month. Users pay for the apps they need, not a platform-wide license that covers everything.
This modular model creates significant cost optimization opportunities: only license full users for the applications they actually use; use Team Members licenses for occasional or read-only access; use attach pricing to reduce the cost of a second application for users who need multiple modules. Prices below follow Microsoft’s published list prices for Sales, Customer Service, Finance, and Business Central, plus the Dynamics 365 licensing guidance.
How to read the prices on this page: they are Microsoft’s US dollar list prices per user per month at the time of writing. Microsoft changes them, and what you pay also depends on country, currency, billing term and how you buy. Use the figures to compare options and build a budget, then confirm current prices with Microsoft or a partner before you sign. Dynamics 365 licenses are separate from Microsoft 365 licenses, which we explain in our guide to Dynamics 365 vs Microsoft 365.

Attach Pricing: The Most Impactful Cost Reduction Available
When a user already holds a Dynamics 365 “qualifying base” license, additional Dynamics 365 applications are available at the attach price of $20/user/month for Sales Enterprise, Customer Service Enterprise, and Field Service ($30/user/month for Finance, Supply Chain Management, and Project Operations), regardless of the application’s base price. This represents a 80 to 86% discount on the second application.
| Base License | Second App (Base Price) | Attach Price | Monthly Savings per User |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sales Enterprise ($105) | Customer Service Enterprise ($105) | $20 | $85/user/month savings |
| Business Central Premium ($110) | Sales Enterprise ($105) | $20 | $85/user/month savings |
| Finance ($210) | Supply Chain Management ($210) | $30 | $180/user/month savings |
| Customer Service Enterprise ($105) | Field Service ($105) | $20 | $85/user/month savings |
For a 100-user organization that needs both Sales Enterprise and Customer Service Enterprise without attach pricing: 100 × ($105 + $105) = $21,000/month. With attach pricing: 100 × ($105 + $20) = $12,500/month. Annual savings: $102,000. Always model attach pricing when users need more than one Dynamics 365 application.
Worked Examples: What Dynamics 365 Costs for Real Teams
These illustrations use the list prices above, so you can see how the arithmetic works. They are examples, not quotes.
| Scenario | Licenses | Monthly list cost | Annual list cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 sales reps on core CRM | 25 x Sales Professional ($65) | $1,625 | $19,500 |
| 100 users, sales and service | 100 x Sales Enterprise ($105) + 100 x Customer Service attach ($20) | $12,500 | $150,000 |
| 100 users, 40 sellers and 60 read-only staff | 40 x Sales Enterprise ($105) + 60 x Team Members ($8) | $4,680 | $56,160 |
| 50 finance users, 20 also need supply chain | 50 x Finance ($210) + 20 x Supply Chain attach ($30) | $11,100 | $133,200 |
The third row shows why role mapping matters. Putting all 100 users on Sales Enterprise would cost $10,500 a month, so the right Team Members assignments save $5,820 a month, as long as those 60 people really only need read access and light updates.
Team Members License: What It Can and Cannot Do
The Team Members license ($8/user/month) is the most misunderstood license type in Dynamics 365. It provides read access to Dynamics 365 data and a specific set of light write capabilities, but it is not a discounted full license. Assigning Team Members licenses to users who need full operational access creates compliance issues with Microsoft’s licensing terms.
Team Members CAN: Read all Dynamics 365 data. Update their own records (contacts they own, tasks they’re assigned). Submit timesheets and expense reports. Update service tasks and cases they’re assigned. Run reports and dashboards.
Team Members CANNOT: Create new leads, accounts, or opportunities. Manage a sales pipeline. Update records they don’t own. Access the full Dynamics 365 interface. Perform any operational CRM or ERP function that modifies business records at scale.
What Changes the Price You Actually Pay
- Country and currency. Microsoft publishes separate price lists by country and currency, and tax is added on top. A list built from US dollar prices will not match a UK or EU quote exactly, so use it for comparison and confirm local pricing with Microsoft or a partner.
- How you buy. Direct purchase, an Enterprise Agreement and a Cloud Solution Provider partner can carry different terms, billing options and discounts.
- Commitment and volume. Annual commitments and larger user counts often unlock better pricing than monthly, small purchases.
- Add-ons and capacity. Extra Dataverse storage, Copilot features and other add-ons are priced separately from the base license.
Device Licenses: When Per-Device Makes More Sense
For manufacturing floors, retail points of sale, and warehouse environments where multiple employees share a single device (a shared terminal, a barcode scanner station), per-device licensing can be more cost-effective than per-user. Device licenses for specific Dynamics 365 applications allow unlimited users on a single registered device. Contact Microsoft licensing or your partner for current per-device pricing, it varies by application and is negotiable under Enterprise Agreements.
Dynamics 365 Marketing Licensing
Marketing is licensed differently from the per-user apps. It is priced per tenant, starting from the figure in the table above, with an allowance of contacts and add-on packs when you need more. Microsoft now sells this capability within Dynamics 365 Customer Insights. Check exactly what is included, such as contact volume, emails and journeys, before you compare it with other marketing automation tools.
Costs Beyond the License
License fees are only one line in a Dynamics 365 budget. Plan separately for these items.
- Implementation and configuration by a partner or internal team.
- Data migration and cleanup from your current systems.
- Integrations with finance, e-commerce, marketing and other tools.
- Customization, Power Platform apps and automations.
- Extra Dataverse storage and add-on capacity.
- Training, change management and ongoing administration or support.

How to Choose the Right Dynamics 365 License
- List every user group and what they actually do in the system: create and edit records, approve, or only read.
- Map each group to the lightest license that allows those tasks, using Team Members only for read-only and light updates.
- Check which users need more than one application and model attach pricing for them.
- Decide whether any shared-device environments, such as warehouses or shop floors, are better served by device licenses.
- Review licenses at least once a year and remove unused seats.
If you want a second pair of eyes on the plan, our Dynamics 365 team can review your license mix before you commit.
